the Dimmick Memorial Library on Saturday, September 21, 2002 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM.
Centered in the fictional community of Mount Canaan, Pennsylvania, the novel tells the poignant tale of two stray dogs -- a Jack Russell terrier and a blind mongrel -- struggling for survival while eluding animal control officers and a bloodthirsty pack of feral dogs.
Smith used Jim Thorpe as a model for Mount Canaan, and several area landmarks and events -- notably the annual Fall Foliage Festival -- play key parts in the novel.
