With the assistance of a private eye, Rexford Tinklepaw, Lucy tracks down her two equally illegitimate brothers: the amiable Wesley Mann—owner of the largest chain of car dealerships in North Texas; and the morbid Anderson Gill, a gloomy insurance actuary knee-deep in life expectancies and risk assessments. Together, they converge on McHugh's compound, along with a pair of McHugh's former wives, a bare-bones documentary film crew—and a Bigfoot-obsessed “man-boy” named Dougie.
While they wait for the lab results, the new siblings form a tentative bond and learn more about the flippant con man who paid off their respective mothers to be rid of them—all the while dodging the moving men sent by the university to repossess the school's equipment. Will the aging McHugh find redemption in the form of his now-adult children? Will he succeed in reclaiming his funding? More importantly, will Lucy find a match?
