Suddenly, he squinted into the darkness, trying to focus on the murky waves. What was that dark shape in the water where his line went down? Was it – no, it was gone – must have been a shadow. He laughed out loud, chastising himself for a runaway imagination, then settled down on his rock, waiting for the telltale jerk that would tell him another fish was ready for his bucket.
