of North Carolina and Tennessee

Nashville, Tenn., October 29, 2008 – John W. Miller awarded the Clark Cox Historical Fiction Award for his new book, “The Curse of Satan’s Collar,” a historical fiction novel based on his family’s tales of living in the mountains of North Carolina for several generations.

Presented annually by the North Carolina Society of Historians, the Clark Cox Historical Fiction Awards recognize authors who have published a significant work of fiction based upon actual historical events, places or individuals in North Carolina history. Published by the Xlibris Corporation, “The Curse of Satan’s Collar” is Miller’s first book. Purchased at Davis-Kidd, Amazon, Barnes & Nobles, Borders, Foogle, Lulu, Xlibris, AuthorsDen.com, and jjseigmiller.comcast.net

“These are the stories I heard from my father. They are the heart of this novel.” Miller noted that he purposefully wrote the novel’s dialogue in mountain dialect, which does not obey rules of grammar or punctuation. He was born and raised in Memphis, Tenn. After the U.S. Marine Corps, he graduated from the School of Dentistry at University of Tennessee. In addition to practicing general dentistry, Miller is a professional custom golf club maker. In 1998 he was named the southern region’s Custom Clubmaker of the Year by the Golf Clubmakers’ Association, and named the Atlantic Regional Custom Clubmaker of the Year in 1999 by the Professional Clubmakers’ Society. Miller lives in Nashville with his wife, Joan Seigenthaler Miller.
