Medallion Press has offered me a contract for my first fantasy book in a multi book series.
One of the greatest benefits of being a writer is meeting and being friends with other writers. You’ll never find a more entertaining, funny, supportive and creative group of people than those who put ink to paper. I’ve been fortunate enough to share my first book signing with two other authors and what fun it was.
And my week only progressed uphill from there. After months of checking my email four times per day I received that actual phone call from a publisher offering me a contract for the first book in my fantasy series. Medallion Press will publish The Keepers of Sulbreth in early 2010.
I love my romance books and will always write them and read them, but my dream has been to be published by in fantasy. Yes, there are elves and magic, heroes and the nastiest of villains. One dream has come true. Two years seems a long time to wait to see my book in print, but it will be worth it. And since I’ll be busy working on part three of the series, I’m sure the time will pass quickly.
So for those of you still seeking publication, find a writer’s group and join. Most groups have people at every level of their careers from multi-published authors to those still working on their first manuscript. And you’ll find writers a generous lot and willing to share their experience, their advice and answer all your questions. Few writers I know forget what it was like to be the newbie. I can honestly, completely swear that I would never have been published in any genre or form if not for what I’ve learned from my writing friends and my local group. So be a joiner and save a few buying dollars for 2010.
