MY SEA OF Bb Minor BLUES

For those few special AD authors who purchased AD author MICHAEL GUY's Click herein June and any AD writer interested Jazz/NewAge piano/keyboard music, this emerging and experienced pianist has recently completed yet another successful recording session near his hometown in OCALA City, Florida for music to be released on a 2nd CD this fall entitled: IN MEMORY ONLY.

The sessions were done in a digital keyboard room (studio "m") of a small commercial studio near his country home, located in the Ocala National Forest in Marion county, Florida. This gave the options of having a better sound and "live engineer" to monitor levels, unlike when recording live in performance. Also possible was the process he uses to acheive an inspired jazz improvisation performance of a composition. In Jazz, often one take is a more inspired realization of the music than another. Michael Guy used a serial take format for a composition he recorded here called: My Sea of Bbminor Blues a lovely, yearning minor blues melody which was then improvised on. By first recording the theme in seperate tracks, he then did a series of "refrains" of this composition until just the right take was acheived. There were almost 8-9 takes of this piece and 3 of those tracks became "inspired" and had such good sound that they will be released.

He said: "I'm particularly pleased that these sessions fell on the weekend of JULY 19-20, which for me celebrates exactly one year ago when I had my last full piano session and recorded my ever-growing and popular series released on August Ocean Overture entitled SeaBreeze in G. This session has even better piano sound than that session of a year ago and it was pretty good."

The second session was a series of takes on a new song melody he has especially written called "The Old Apple Tree" that is inspired by his love of old Appalachian mountain folk music. This New Age-like improvisatioin uses various settings to even imitate a "country" sounding honky-tonk piano and also uses sythesizer washes to give it an open-air setting. The very country feeling is appropriate given that the original melody has that "strangely familiar" sound one thinks he has heard although it is original. He titled this 7' theme and variations, "The Old Apple Tree" to harmonize with the overall theme of his CD; IN MEMORY ONLY.  This CD features half new stuff and a  retrospective of earlier material from 2005 as a memorial to his parents who passed away earlier this decade.
