It's sad, typical of corporations and true, but when Derek Sivers sold his self-start independent CD distribution  site, CDbaby, about 6 months ago, I figured these kind of changes would come. I had just recently after many years managed to place my first music CD into public distributioin. Sivers sold his site to a much larger company called DISCmakers, which makes CD releases and presses recordings for independent musicians, but with the advance of new home technology to make those CDs and cheaper dot.coms that do it for so little expense they have been losing money.

In any case, like all companies they are now bragging about all the NEW benefits and add-ons they are giving you the independent CD producer but along with that comes new fees and higher takes on your Royalties which are few and low enough for most musicians here.

But the worst for someone like me is this: IF I don't sell at least one physical CD in the next 12 months they can send your products BACK to you and effectively close you out of a place to sell your music. You may still be able to sell downloads but for a New Age solo jazz like mine, the music is best heard in a continuous performance like a CD player can give you. DIGITAL downloads only serve to cut up long tracks into bits when they are meant to be heard in sequence.
