According to "Newsweek" magazine the number of high school graduates and white collar workers has increased dramatically since 1940. In that year three-fourths of the population were high school dropouts or never attended high school at all. Even in 1960, 59% of the population had less than a high school education. In 2007 the number was 14%. At the same time, white collar workers have grown from 32 to 60%. 

The number of blue collar workers are, for the 1st time in history, a minority. and although they are a very dirversified group, the preception of them, right or wrong, is that they are among the most staunch supporters of the institutions that keep them in balls and chains. Among these are the Republican party and the Southern Baptist Convention. Wouldn't the Democratic party and the United Methodist Church be a better chorice for them?

Such things as anti-unionism, the privatization of health insurance and Social Security, racism, lax safety rules, wars, and what Pope John Paul called unbridled capitalism all work against them.

The precieved mentality of these people are a very interesting phenomenon. They don't seem to realize that they are the most likely to be killed in wars to protect the financial interests of American corporations, loosing arms and fingers in factories, or being unable to afford medical insurance. They also seem to be unaware that nationalism, { not a bad thing in itself } is the vehicle imposing colonialism and imperialism on the non-developed world, historically sometimes killing 80% of the native non-white population.
