The Western Writers of America, a national organization of professional writers, judged Paxton Riddle's LOST RIVER as runner-up for two of its most prestigous awards for 2000: Best Original Paperback and Best First Novel.
“It’s quite a coup for an author to qualify in two major award categories, doubly so for a first novel” said Spur Award Chairman W. C. Jameson. “Our judges, many of them past Spur winners, all had high praise for Mr. Riddle’s novel. As a result, we’ve asked Mr. Riddle to be a Spur Awards judge for our 2001 competition.”
Jameson said the competition was fierce and included many nationally known authors. Riddle was runner-up for Best Original Paperback Novel and for the Medicine Pipe Bearer’s Award (Best First Novel). Over 80 books were entered in each of these categories.
