Marooned on Molokai (a Hawaiian travel journal)

A lengthy travel log in the manner of the classical Japanese I-novel, concerning the off-the-mainstream island of Moloka'i, in the Hawaiian Islands.

This is an insightful look into things both Hawaiian and haole malahini on the so-called 'Friendly Island' of Molokai (HI). Although the phrase 'Friendly Island' was purely a vacation fantasy phrase cooked up by modern Hawaiian state public relations minions, it is quite misleading in that Moloka'i is 'friendly' only if you approach the Moloka'iians on THEIR own terms. That is to say, if they feel you are a friendly, fair-minded and sensitive individual who is not there to exploit, take-advantage-of, or otherwise try to change the traditional ways found there, you MAY be accorded a friendly welcome. Moloka'i has resisted both change and speculative development for decades, while most of the rest of the islands have become progressively used, abused, loved-to-death, and otherwise exploited vicariously for 'outsider' profit motives. There is much of spendid beauty and perfect simplicity to see and experience there, but do not expect a typically touristy experience such as is typified by Maui, Oahu and/or Kauai. Moloka'i is therefore NOT for everyone and it's the last place you'd ever want to go to find a mate. That said, this journal is a record of 30 days spent on island (near the thriving metropolis of Kaunakakai, population 2800) in anticipation of becoming a permanent part of that island's resident population. You may go to sleep before you reach its end, but I guarantee you it won't be like any other travel log you've ever read (don't expect Paul Theroux).

The book will be out in hardcover format towards the end of 2017 and will be available anywhere where books are sold, and through all the usual on-line venues.

A PDF pre-publication version of it is available to peruse (see link).
