Seven 12 year olds kick off the new year with Saving Bluestone Belle!
A group of sixth grade girls in Downingtown, Pennsylvania have chosen Saving Bluestone Belle as the first book they will read in their brand new book club. Ruth Doubleday, mother of one of the kids and the facilitator of the group, tells author Strawberry Shakespeare that she left it up to the girls to suggest and select the books they will read. She hopes the book club will encourage them to read books they might not normally choose and help them to think critically about what they've read. Last but not least, she wants the girls to enjoy reading and be excited about what they will read next.
Kudos to Ruth for supporting this children's reading group. And kudos to these seven young ladies for coming together to celebrate their passion for reading. Texas schoolteacher Linda Hunnicutt sums it up best. "Book clubs where kids voluntarily gather to discuss a book... well that's a miracle I'd like to see in every family's living room!"
