Larry Rochelle's Palmer Morel returns in "The Mephisto Diary". This is the second in a series of books. It is the story of sex slaves to the Charleston elite. Palmer is a thirty-nine year old tennis instructor, recently married to Missy. Ashley Tennis Club, in Charleston, South Carolina, employs him. Palmer is happy instructing both young and senior members. When his star pupil Mimi Collins is found dead, Palmer is the prime suspect. While Missy disappears when the media begins watching the couple closely, Palmer runs while trying to clear his name. The hunt is on for escaped fugitive Palmer Morel. Palmer is the fall guy, set up by someone - but who?
Missy's diary entries are intertwined through out the novel. Palmer learns that she "...knew about the Mephisto before she was captured and put behind its doors." Could she truly love him and yet have implicated him in the murder of Mimi?
This book is not for the timid. It includes sexual violence and graphic language. The author takes the reader into the dark and slimy underground world of Charleston, South Carolina. Rochelle has a running theme in his books: depraved rich, conspiracy, and a thirst for sex, money and power.
No need to use your brain on this one. This is strictly reading for entertainment. I found the plot interesting in places. It had some unexpected twists and turns. I recommend this book for mystery readers who need a break from a deep involved read. It's a good book and very entertaining.
