Children of the Mind details a society in which thought is rationed, imagination is considered a disease, and dreaming a subversive activity.
Paul JJ Payack is a Silicon Valley marketing executive by day but by night he constructs elaborate tales of all-too-strange new worlds such as that found in Children of the Mind, his just released novella.
Payack originally conceived of the tale while watching the last gasps of the Communist Empire play out in Solidarity-era Poland. "The task was to construct an entire metafictional world where dreaming was considered a subversive activity. The news reports of the day provided details of ordinary folks in heroic acts of desperation."
In the tale, persons suspected of dreaming are summarily 'nebulized' by denizens of the Grave Registration, such as one Meilgaard who, as a matter of public record, would have flowers whither to his touch and toadstools sprout from his path.
The Children of the Mind of the title are a shadowy group who rise up against their oppressors.
The book can be purchased through Borders, Barnes & Nobles, Amazon.com, and leading bookshops everywhere.
