Hi, Everybody! Used to treat AD "News" formally -- more professionally, yes --, but as third-party news items are not allowed, the approach seems stiff and unrealistic.
Enough o' that. Just want to tell you that my poem, "Encore Out," will appear in the semiannual journal, MoonCrossing. MoonCrossing is a publication of Poetry in the Arts. As I understand it, the issue in which the poem will appear is slated to come out next month {October, '03}. {B'lieve the poem that won HM will also be in the issue, but I need to check my "records:)"}
Mini-News Item #2: "Daisy Magnet'd Fridge Note" is being published in VoicesNet's upcoming quarterly anthology. I am assured that although anthologies are involved, selections are made with care. VoicesNet points out that it is not a vanity publisher. Although over the decades {ok, I'm old}, I have occasionally submitted poetry to publishers who don't screen work {other than for expletives and xxx) -- especially during high-rejection periods --, but I have always made it a policy not to buy anything in order to see my work. Writers' organizations recommend the policy. In no uncertain terms! While it is probably best to avoid publishers who skirt legitimacy by publishing en masse and encouraging purchase [poetry.com is perhaps the most notorious*], to me, the main thing to remember is that poets deserve to be paid, just like teachers, firemen and plumbers. Copies, a subscription, free advertising. . .something. For those of us who consider ourselves professionals, it is especially important that we support one another in this area.
Thanks for 'listenin'~! I am so, so grateful to those of you who read and review my work. Especially lately. "What is this 'Happy?" -- the poem I published most recently -- deals with poverty such as few, if any, Americans are unfortunate enough to know. Your reaction to the poem . . .for once, I do not know what to say.
