My Splendid Concubine will be leaving its first publisher this month. The first publisher released My Splendid Concubine in December 2007, and priced the paperback for this historical fiction novel at $21.95. The second edition will be published by Three Clover Press and the paperback will priced at $14.95 with standard industry discounts for wholesalers and the publisher will offer a limited buy-back program for retailers.
The first edition for My Splendid Concubine received excellent reviews in 2008. Pull quotes from those reviews are available at Click here . There was one negative review and that was published by The Beijing Youth Daily newspaper (an English language newspaper in China), controlled by the Communist Youth League (Circulation 600,000).
It is interesting to note that there is no mention of Robert Hart in the history books in China. Is it possible that the Chinese Communists feel it would be a loss of face to admit that an Irishman (1835 – 1913) was responsible for the building of China’s railroads; setting up China’s postal system; creating a functioning, efficient Customs service and helping to reorganize China’s educational system (still in use today) so China’s public schools could compete with Western industrialized nations?_________________________________________________________________________________
