They were married 50 years. Lois Wauson and her husband, Eddie, had survived the depression of the ‘30’s, war years of the ‘40’s, golden years of the ‘50’s, turmoil in the ‘60’s, changing time of the ‘70’s, trials and tragedies of the ‘80’s and ‘90’s, and now faced one more challenge: Alzheimer’s disease.
By the time the symptoms of Alzheimer’s began, things were not going well in their marriage. They had drifted apart. But during the next eight years, as the disease progressed and Eddie’s condition worsened, they grew closer and their love returned for each other as they leaned on their faith and

March 2006—Words of Wisdom from Eddie
Taken from my daily journal, when Eddie was going into the last stages of Alzheimers. Half of the book has entries from my diary of my journey with the illness. I always look for something positive to focus on.
Today Eddie was really talking about strange things. But in a way,
he makes sense.
This is what he said:
“When I was out in the world I was controlling myself and I was
able to because I didn’t want to get into a battle with the enemy. That’s
what a lot of people do, and it will be that way till the end of the world.
I have gone through that my whole life. Don’t give up the ship, but
SINK it! All we have is Jesus Christ, and he wants to take care of his
children.”
Again he said when he walked into the room, “You better put on
a life jacket before you go out in life!”
