Author Avenue's October Author Spotlighted is L.C. Martin
L.C. Martin a.k.a. Juanita McClellan is the author of Caught in the Rain, a romantic suspense novel set along the rugged coastal area of Southern California that was released this fall by Publish America.
L.C. currently resides in Stamford, Connecticut with her husband, Jim, who through his support and encouragement has given her the opportunity to pursue her dreams. As a teenager, she lived in the heated city of Miami and became an avid reader. She spent many summers on the beach with a sizzling book. That's when she fell in love with romance novels, and the desire to write began to grow. Her favorite writers are Nora Roberts, Janet Evanovich, Julie Garwood, Andres Dubus III, and Brad Meltzer.
She's a member of EPIC, RWA, and the Co-founder of a Southern Connecticut Writer's Group. Writing can be quite lonely at times, she says, but through my group, I've been able to connect with people dealing with the same concerns. And our critique workshop has definitely improved my writing skills. L.C. has written two novels and is currently working on a third entitled Emerald Harbor, a romance full of intrigue, romance, and high stakes that takes place in the balmy waters of the Virgin Islands. St. Thomas is one of her favorite places to visit and while vacationing there with her brother, she was inspired to write this romantic suspense.
L.C. spends her free time reading, exercising, and visiting friends. She loves to travel and finds inspiration in almost every place she's been. Her most recent trip was to the sparkling beaches of Hawaii, where she spent most of the time relaxing, sight seeing, and working on the island of Oahu, known for its famous landmark Diamond Head.

Jessica Thomas leaves behind her best friend, Joe, who's embarked on a political path into the Senate. But when he visits Jessica in L.A., their friendship takes a sharp turn toward romance and Jessica keeps her jaded lifestyle a secret. Afraid of jeopardizing Joe's career, Jessica avoids him and focuses on her work. Joe pushes aside his simmering desire for her and devotes all of his energy into reaching his political goals and to Maxie, a sassy redhead, who's been in love with him since high school. But when Jessica unknowingly becomes involved with a dangerous stranger, she turns to Joe and their hunger for each other can't be denied. Can their love survive the tragedy and deceit thrown in their path? Or will they lose the only real love they've ever known?
L.C. Martin's narratives are quick-paced and the dialog sound and uncluttered. Ms. Martin has much potential in her crisp writing style and I like her abiding optimism. The characters here are endearing and the storyline memorable; Caught In The Rain was a refreshing read for a hot summer day. Reviewed by Maria Osborne Perry August 6, 2002
