Ready, Set, Hired!

Business/Investing
Ready, Set, Hired! ia an essential tool for anyone looking to launch a career with the federal public service. Charles Seems has managed to carve the mystery from the Canadian public service system. His approach is reasonable and straight-forward, with a clear explanation of the system's quirks and a glossary of terminology that will prove invaluable to the reader.

For a vast number of job seekers, employment with the Canadian public service may well appear to be a maze of impenetrable bureaucracy, overshadowed by a seedy splash of political influence. In actual fact, however, success in obtaining employment within our public service is not all that different from the same undertaking with any major corporation.

            Through Ready, Set, Hired, the perceptive job seeker will quickly recognize the need to research his/her corporate prey before embarking upon the hunt for employment. Such an undertaking will include:

● understanding the purpose and the mandate of the organization;

● understanding the different organizational cultures which exist within this vast corporate entity and identifying those which are best suited to the individual;

● understanding the rules, procedures and practices which are specific to the public service; and

● becoming familiar with the corporate “jargon”.

            As a specialist in this complex field, I find it intriguing that Charles has managed to carve the mystery out of the Canadian public service system. His approach is reasonable and straight-forward, with a clear explanation of the quirks of the system and an anthology of terminology that will prove invaluable to the reader.
