Stress is the human body's response to "fight or flight." The biological processes involve the digestive and reproductive systems slowing down, growth hormones shut off, and the immune system breaks down making it susceptible to illness.
More than half of the American population is affected by stress. The two primary reasons are occupational and social stressors. Occupational stressors involve issues such as work dissatisfaction, office politics, unemployment, conflict with bosses and/or coworkers, job insecurity, and for those who are still employed, overwhelming workloads and unrealistic deadlines. Social stressors usually involve issues such as marriage separation, financial issues in marriage, divorce, or the death of a loved one.
Stress has been linked with chronic disease. Because of the amount of Americans that are so incredibly stressed, chronic disease is rampant, particularly:
1. Cardiovascular disease
2. Depression
Stress has also been linked to minor health problems such as headache, upset stomach, muscle tension, frequent colds, and insomnia. Americans need to learn how to reduce stress. Having a sense of humor and laughing is one of the greatest ways to alleviate stress. Studies show that is reduces stress and increases cell activity. Laughter reduces hormones like cortisol and dopamine while it increases endorphins. Laughter also provides an instant relief from negative feelings of guilt, anger, and stress by providing a better outlook on life even during difficult times.
To help reduce stress by making people laugh and feel good, local merchant, artist and resident, Karen Justice created a greeting card line, Wild Jungle Chick. Her designs are created in tropical settings, often displaying two or three animals talking with one another. The backdrops are vibrant often displaying multi-shades of blue, yellow, and red. The feel good and uplifting designs provide an instant vacation to everyone who sees them. Karen's mission is to help local residents relax and see the humor in life's comedy. She wants people to stop feeling frustrated and approach life in a more mirthful way.
Karen invites you to stop by her retail store at 2300 Gulf Blvd in Indian Rocks Beach to experience her heartwarming and uplifting designs.
