The conflict between Palestinians and Israelis is the focus of a new book, Secret of the Scroll, by Nashville author Chester Campbell.
He will introduce his novel and have a book signing from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Books-a-Million in Oak Ridge.
Secret of the Scroll is Campbell's first novel. In the book, retired Air Force investigator Greg McKenzie and his wife, Jill, are caught in the crossfire when they return to Nashville from a Holy Land trip. What they thought was a souvenir turns out to be an ancient Hebrew scroll worth millions of dollars.
Secret of the Scroll takes place in Nashville and Israel.
A University of Tennessee journalism graduate and former Knoxville Journal reporter, Campbell is a member of the Tennessee Mountain Writers, which meets annually in Oak Ridge. His daughter, Betsy, and four grandchildren live in Oak Ridge.
He served 18 years as executive vice president of the Tennessee Association of Life Underwriters, worked as a speech writer for Gov. Buford Ellington and handled public relations for former Nashville Mayor Ben West.
An Air Force intelligence officer in the Korean War, he retired from the Air Force Reserve as a lieutenant colonel.
Release of the book by Durban House Publishing Company of Dallas marks Campbell's debut as a fiction writer at age 76. He plans a series of mysteries involving the McKenzies, with the first to be published by Durban House in 2003.
Secret of the Scroll costs $15.95 in paperback and is available at Books-a-Million.
Campbell and his wife, Sarah, live in the Nashville suburb of Madison.
