Cameron jumped out of her car and ran into the small building that had been her family’s business, The Bakery/Book Store. Okay, not too original on the name of the business, but to the point. She took over the business three years ago when she graduated from pastry school and her parents wanted to retire. As usual, she was running late from not sleeping that great the previous night. She brushed past Debbie, her long time friend.
Debbie looked at the clock when she saw Cameron pull up and knew that it would be a busy morning. When she heard the door open, Debbie grabbed hold of the baking island. In hopes that Cameron wouldn’t almost knock her over again for the third time that month. “Rough night?” she asked letting go of the counter after Cameron grabbed her apron and put it on.
Cameron glanced up at her and sighed. “Yes. I went to bed again.”
“You know, last I checked, sleep was good. Something that you want to get and not avoid.” Debbie sarcastically joked. “Was this the one where Terrick and you…and you guys…you know?“ she asked and received her answer with a nod. “I thought that maybe it was the one like the previous night. The one that had to do with you know who?“ When she didn’t receive an answer she continued on. “You know, I was thinking that this could have something to do with you know who moving back into town and you‘re getting confused?” Debbie asked holding in a chuckle. She couldn’t help it, she felt that Cameron’s life could sometimes be worse than a soap opera.
Cameron grabbed the sugar cookie dough from the fridge and plopped it on the counter. She rummaged through the drawers for her rolling pin, avoiding Debbie’s question as long as possible.
