Excerpt from Interview:

Detroit “pop-punkers”, Kaleido, effortlessly merges punk, metal and radio rock.  Kaleido formed in 2011 when members Christina Chriss and Joey Fava met in 2010.  Since, bassist Cody Morales, guitarist Ronnie Rosolino, and guitarist Jamie Burnham have joined the band.  They are a band receiving a lot of press around the Motor City and are looking to expand with their new EP due out later this year.  Mancave Playbabes discussed their music, what’s next, and of course, what’s happening in Detroit. 

Mancave Playbabes: How did the band originate?

Kaleido: Kaleido emerged in Detroit as a powerhouse rock/pop band in October 2011. Created by Christina Chriss and Joey Fava, who met in 2010 at a rock show their bands were playing together, the two decided to start writing with each other, and recorded their first song 'This Far.' They began as a four piece, and recently added a second guitar player, making the band a five piece.

Mancave Playbabes: Describe the Detroit rock scene these days.

Kaleido: The rock scene is not what it used to be because so many live music venues have closed down. EDM is very popular today as well, so we feel that the scene is smaller, but heart, perseverance and talent still shine through.

Mancave Playbabes: Describe the band’s writing process…did this change when Ronnie Rosolino joined..or Cody Morales?

Kaleido: Most of the writing is done by Christina and Joey. Their songwriting formula from the beginning has been Joey's multi instrumental writing ability mixed with Christina's lyrics and melodies. Now that there are more members, the writing process is expanding to include them as well.

Mancave Playbabes: When writing/creating…do you consciously mix rock, punk, and pop? 

Kaleido: Our biggest influences in music growing up are from those genres, and it really shows in what we are writing. We don't consciously decide to mix the three, it sort of just happens naturally.

Mancave Playbabes: How much does image play into Kaleido?

Kaleido: Image is important, but we don't have a lot of money as we are aspiring musicians, so we try to keep it simple, besides Christina's hair, that is. That's about as far from simple as you can get. Our motto is much like the Kaleidoscope: Doesn't matter what it looks like on the outside, it's the inside that makes it what it is.
