How to Deal with any U.S. Debt Ceiling Crisis
Congress, not the President, passes all federal laws and obligates the United States to make payments under those laws. It is the President’s duty to see that the laws are faithfully executed. Should the Congress fail to raise the debt ceiling and cause the federal government to default in it obligations to pay any of its debts or obligations, the President could act independently in fulfilling his duties as head of state by issuing an Executive Order:
Executive Order #____, Lifting of the U.S. Debt Ceiling
Pursuant to Article II and Amendment XIV of the United States Constitution, I hereby direct that all the debts and obligations of the United States incurred by the laws of the United States, be honored and paid on time by all agencies of the federal government without delay in order to prevent the enormous financial turmoil likely to ensue across the nation and around the world by their cessation. This order is effective immediately and shall remain in effect until further notice.
