From his cramped quarters in the Equestar, Captain Laaron asked the computer to again scan for any possible response to their hails.
The metallic voice said, “No response from Degranon, though we are now in communications range. Also, no response from Valchondria.”
Laaron sat down on the military-sized bed that he still sometimes fell from while sleeping, even after two years in space. He used his palm machine to read the last message they had received from Degranon, and then at photographs of the man he had loved and lost.
