Spectacular views from a rooftop of the Potomac River, classical music, delicious Italian cuisine and an audience of arts lovers, describes an upcoming evening sponsored by the Coalition for African Americans in the Performing Arts (CAAPA) in celebration of their 10th anniversary. “Rossini on the Rooftop Reception and Silent Auction”, the fifth of a series of anniversary celebrations, is scheduled for Saturday, May 17th, 2014 from 6:00 to 9:00pm, One National Harbor, 155 Potomac Passage, Oxon Hill, Maryland. Proceeds from the silent auction will benefit African American classical musicians and music students, who will also be performing works by the Italian composer and others. Attire is spring festive chic. The non-profit arts organization, whose credo is “Bringing Color to the Classics!”, has tickets available for $45.00 each and may be purchased on the organization’s website at http://4caapa.org/?page_id=1360, call the office at 301-839-1444 to pay by credit card or if you prefer, mail a check with your ticket request to CAAPA, P.O. “Bringing color to the classics” is CAAPA’s way of reaching youth, adults, students, families and arts lovers with classical music through community outreach, arts education, audience development, performance opportunities and arts partnerships, ultimately helping build an appreciation for an art form often thought of as elitist in the African American community. Founded by brother and sister classical musicians to give back to the community, CAAPA is confident the “Rossini on the Rooftop” event will help dispel that myth with its moving songs and presentations.
