The decision to rule the PCF-19 sinking in 1968 used flawed intelligence in regard to weapons used.
In my book, "Swift Boat Down, The Real Story of the sinking of PCF-19, I used the reference of the unguided rocket used by both our forces and the North Vietnamese Air Forces. Based on the diver report describing two approximately 76.2 mm holes about 10 inches apart just above the waterline penetrating the forward crew compartment. The board of inquiry stated that the weapon used was an Aim-7 air to air guided missile fired from a U.S. Air Force F-4 Phantom jet. There is a diagram of the rocket showing the fuze on the tip and explosive behind. I am enclosing a diagram of an Aim-7 missile which shows a radar guidance in the nose and an explosive charge toward the middle of the missile. This could not have been the weapon used on PCF-19 on 16 June 1968.
