The venue may have been called Redcar Jazz Club, but after presenting the best of the trad jazz bands in the early 60s, the club soon moved on to the best of R&B then through the British blues boom to eventually showcase the top rock acts at the end of that explosive decade, including Robert Plant, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Steve Winwood, Rod Stewart and Fleetwood Mac. That the club was at the forefront of the wave of fast-changing musical fashion is illustrated by Joe Cocker and then The Who walking onto the stage of Redcar Jazz Club to tear the roof off only scant weeks before they became global legends at Woodstock.
