From "The Man on the Bench":
"In my mind, I woke-up--surprisingly perspicacious, acute and astute--to a hovering of blinding florescent lighting directly above me. I could hear a booming voice bust the otherwise halcyon setting, "I don't think he's going to make it. He has simply lost too much blood from the impact of the accident." I figured then that I must be in a hospital, not heaven and the voice must be that of a doctor and not God... I tried to repel the tides of panic and pandemonium that was growing like a balloon inside of me...I wanted so much to shriek at the top of my lungs, "I'm alive! I'm alive!"... But all I could do was lie there, my fate completely out of my hands...I started to wonder how I had gotten there; to that point on the operating table; surrounded by men in white coats. The last thing I remembered was me driving down a highway. But where was I going? Why was I going there? Then all of a sudden, I heard "Clear!" and then "We got him back!" Later, I found out that they went through my phone and contacted my wife Lola and told her what had happened. They then told her that I would have to be airlifted back to Boston since my car was impounded and that I was in San Francisco. San Francisco? I figured then that I must have been driving for days. They said I suffered from anterograde memory damage, which explains my inability to remember recent events.
When the ambulance brought me back home, Lola was waiting for me in front of the first floor window. I was so in love with her, not unlike Pygmalion, who in Greek mythology, fell in love with his self-made ivory statue and appealed to Aphrodite--Greek Goddess of love and beauty--to give it life... From a distance, she looked like a comely ghostly vision in a haunted mansion, fraught with trepidation, waiting to be rescued... The two EMT's helped me out and Lola ran into me to hug me and I almost lost my balance...

From "Faded Blue Jeans":
....he lunged at me and dragged me into the pool with the paper still in my hand. I held the paper above my head so as not to get it wet as I climbed back out of the pool. I ran cautiously around the pool after him, my jeans, heavy as chlorinated fluid clang to my crotch exposing the beginnings of an erection. Hank stood on the other side, grinning, his legs twitching, knowing that I was coming. I started after him, but he jumped into the pool fully clothed before I even had a chance to get to him. I jumped in. He didn’t know that I’m a better swimmer than he was. I caught up to him easy. I pounced onto his back. At that point we simultaneously toppled over and his weight almost drowned me. He wiggled under my grasp trying to get a way; I lowered my hands further down to his groin area, pleasantly surprised to see that he too was erect with the cataclysmic force of rushing adrenaline. Hank wiggled like a trapped snake. His masculine backside bumped against my pelvic, toying with my palpable stiffness. I gasped fearing my own desire, failing to realize that I have freed the thick white fluid that threatened to explode my gonads, sending spurts of joy all in the confines of my now severely tight blue jeans. I started to panic hoping that Hank wasn’t aware of this. What if he turns around and upon seeing my conspicuous desire barks out “fag!!!” at me or something.
He twisted around in a half circle and pushed me away from him playfully. I landed on my back, my head partly sank below the surface and some water got into my nose. I came up gasping for air...
Author House Marketing Rep: Tell us about some of the highlights regarding your cultural influences...
The book references both my French, Haitian and American backgrounds. It has French, Creole and English vernacular dialogue and colloquialism. It implores my French, Haitian and American cultural morays. I particularly want to emphasize my budding spiritual learning which I have integrated, and permeated throughout the stories. The book also challenges the idea of sexuality, the characters have a liberated sense of sexuality that encompass the totality of the sexual liberation movement of today: not restricted to societal "norms" or "expectations" as pertain to emotional and/or physical attraction.
