Each year for the last five or so years, a group of authors, librarians, and bookstore owners in Michigan's Upper Peninsula receive, read, discuss, and decide on a list of ten books for the U.P. Notable Book List. The group also chooses two books published before the list began and relavent in UP literature for at least ten years. This year's list was chosen from over 50 titles submitted. All books must meet at least one of these requirements:

Be about Michigan's Upper Peninsula

Be written by an author who lives or has a major connection to the area

Be a major contribution to the excellence in writing from the area. 

Each author is then invited to present in a Zoom UP Book Club session, one each month. These programs are sponsored by the Christal Falls Public Library and the Upper Peninsula Publishers and Authors Association. Evelyn Gathu, librarian in Chrystal Falls, hosts the programs.

Deborah K Frontiera's book, Living on Sisu, has been a staple in the area since its publication in 2009. Written for students in grades 4-8, older students and adults of all ages enjoy it as much as the young people. Many school districts use it as part of their curriculum in Language Arts and Social Studies in their Michigan History Units.
