FRIENDS AND RELATIVE RUN PILLAR TO POST FOR THE RELEASE OF INDIAN FISHERMEN JAILED IN PAKISTAN.
Sur, Oman; September 21: Friends and relatives of six Indian fishermen jailed in Pakistan run pillar to post to get them released, but no serious steps have been taken by the Government of India, complained their friends.
The jailed fishermen's friends in Sur had send letters to the Indian Embassy in Muscat on 25th May, 10th July and 20th September, made representations and attended open house at the Embassy, but these efforts fetched no fruits.
It was on May 23, the six Indian fishermen (1) Vijayan Antony, Kavunthanam, Kumbbalam, Kundara, Kollam; Passport No.N-479285 and Omani Labour Card No.53961 (2) Jose Vargies, Vettil Thodiyil Veedu, Kumbbalam, Kundara, Kollam; Passport No.032257 (3) Stalin Alysious, Nellimoodiyil Thekkathil, Kumbalam, Kundara, Kollam, Passport No.E-309779 and Omani Labour Card No.7206684 (4) Vincent Joseph, Iravipuram (5) Jesudasan Raju, Thupparikudy, Near Anchuthengu Fort, Anjengo, Thiruvananthapuram; Passport No.A-7873703 and Omani Labour Card No.7252487, and (5) Joboy Paskas, Thai Vilakam, Purayidam, Near Fort House, Anjengo, Thiruvananthapuram -- who were working in Sur, Sultanate of Oman, in their sponsor's fishing boat, set out for fishing.
They lost control of their vessel in the rough sea. Encountering death-like situation, they somehow got the shore, but in Pakistan, on May 29, which was reported in all media. The Pakistani authorities jailed them at Jawahar Station.
Since May 24, their friends in Sur - Jayakumar V., M. Joseph, Babu and Yesudas – have been getting touch with all and sundry to get the fishermen rescued, but their efforts were in vein. When they contacted the Indian Embassy at Muscat, they were told that what the Embassy could do was done and other matters are rested with the Government of India. When the missing was first reported, the matter was taken up by the Member of Parliament P. Rajendran.

BODY OF KERALITE DIED IN SLEEP SENT HOME
Sur, Oman; August 05: Body of Kottakandi Jayadevan (53), who died in Sur, transported home today by Air India.
It was on August 1, Jayadevan, who was working in a service station in Sur for the last 23 years, found dead of a massive heart attack in sleep.
Hailing from Kannur district in Kerala, he was suffering from lever complaint for some time. He is survived by his wife who is a brain tumor patient and two children.
INCREASING NUMBER OF NEWLY ARRIVED EXPATRIATES REPATRIATED ON DETECTION OF CONTAGIOUS DISEASE
Sur, Oman; July 26: Hardev Singh (33), arrived in the Sultanate of Oman on employment visa on June 25, was repatriated on July 26.
After thorough medical examination and laboratory investigation and re-investigation at Sur, he was detected to be suffering from a contagious disease.
His medical examination and laboratory investigation had been conducted at an approved Medical Centre at Rajindra Place in New Delhi, on April 20 and was given fitness certificate.
Such approved medical centres' medical fitness certificates question the credibility of Indian laboratories and competency and ethics of medical professionals.
During the recently passed World AIDS day, people throughout the world and in India in particular pledged to arrest the spread of AIDS, a malediction of contemporary world, but it appears the Indian laboratories are not yet even well equipped (?) to detect a contagious disease.

SUR MALAYALEES' ONAM CELEBRATION SCHEDULED ON SEPTEMBER 9
Sur, Oman; July 30: Malayalee Community in Sur decided to celebrate this year's Onam, the harvest festival of Kerala, in a befitting manner.
The celebration is scheduled for 09th September 2004 Thursday at 07.00 p.m. at Sur Beach Hotel Auditorium. It will consist a Cultural programme participated by children and elders. An art/literary competition – drawing/painting, flower carpets, poem recitation, eating completion and others - is scheduled for 27th August 2004 Friday.
