1. What Would You Risk?

============================================

'If all difficulties were known at the outset of a long
journey, most of us would never start out at all.'
~Dan Rather

What are the Risks associated with pursuing your dream? The
word 'risk' is hard to define. Risks are sometimes even
harder to identify. Think of a risk as a gamble. It is an
event that we don't control, a chance we take. There is a
possibility that things will turn out okay, but there's also
the chance of a threat to our plans. Some people risk
blindly, jumping into things with their eyes closed, hoping
for the best. If you recognize the risks and evaluate them
in advance, then move ahead, you are taking a more
calculated risk.

Look for Potential Obstacles and Solutions. Obstacles
make life interesting! They are detriments to
some who see only the blockage in their paths. To others,
obstacles are simply stumbling blocks that can be overcome
with foresight and diligence. They are opportunities to
improve ourselves and the situation. An optimistic attitude
is important. The person who succeeds is the one who knows
how to turn a problem inside out, so that it becomes the
genesis of a solution.

Nothing comes without a cost. Figure out the price to be
paid for going ahead with the dream.

Ask yourself what the potential benefits would be for
yourself, for others who would work with you, and for those
who would be recipients of what you hope to provide.

-There may be a payoff in financial profits, giving you a new
sense of security.

-You could enjoy such things as travel
and more leisure time.

-You almost certainly will achieve
personal growth and gain new insights.

-Maybe you will become a stronger, more self-confident person
and have an opportunity to meet exciting people.

-You may have a one-time opportunity to embark on an
adventure that provides its own high.

-Perhaps you will be left with a realization
that you have done something constructive in the
world--provided a service or made life easier for others.

Think of the legacy you will leave. You can achieve
extraordinary things if you know what you want and decide to
work to have it.

Listen in on today's interview with Imran Anwar. There is a
lot of food for thought in this interview! He is outspoken
and passionate about the future of America, which he sees as
the best place in the world to live. Imran is a legal
immigrant from Pakistan. He is a frequent and popular media
guest, including live interviews and appearances on CNN and
Fox News Channel, as an expert on global business strategy,
sociopolitical affairs, and Southeast Asia.

Also tune into the podcast of her show with Cliff and Bess
Crouch, as they tell about how they have designed and are
living their dream. They opened a new chapter in their
lives and today bring enjoyment to hundreds of visitors at
Lavender Spring Ranch. Listen as they tell how they changed
course and followed a dream.

And...Tune in to hear Jo speak with her guest Kaye Hatfield.
Kaye is a freelance writer who writes a column titled 'The
Beauty of Change.' She is a descendant of the Hatfields and
the McCoys whose deadly feud went on for many years in
Kentucky and West Virginia. Kaye is far-removed from that
time and graces us with her writings of romance. How
appropriate. Kaye has experienced some sadness and
hardships in her life and, through her writings, she helps
us all appreciate life more.

Tune in to www.successtalk.com/JoCondrill and keep checking
back to listen in on new Podcasts.

3. Tips for Empowering Yourself

============================================

The difference between the right word and the almost right
word is the difference between the lightening and the
lightening bug ~Mark Twain

There is power in the written and the spoken word. To
emerge as leaders and to have success, we must be able to
utilize language to our advantage.

Nowadays in our fast paced lives we make less and less time
for an activity that was once a great leisure activity -
reading. We receive countless benefits from reading. One
of which is better understanding of the use of language.
The Washington Post recently published an article (Writing
Off Reading, By Michael Skube, Sunday, August 20, 2006)
about a somewhat disturbing phenomenon. It seems that
society as a whole is becoming less literate. High school
students graduating with Grade Point Averages of 3.5 or above go
on to college where their lack of knowledge in use of the English
language is apparent. They lack understanding of many of
the words which make the English language an art, or at the
very least more interesting. Michael Skube, among others,
attributes this deficiency to a lack of reading.

Kevin Wilke, millionaire entrepreneur and co-founder of
NitroMarketing, says, 'Leaders are Readers.' He is so
right. He conveys that it is important to continue to
expand your mind, stretch for better understanding.
Continue to grow and achieve. You too can be a leader, an
achiever.

Many of us do not read because it is time consuming, quiet
work. Others have discovered the joy of sharing someone
else's ideas and adventures in solitude. Reading helps us
become better educated and better conversationalists.

- Make reading a habit. Set time aside every day to read.

- Scan the material or the table of contents.

- Skim to pick up major points.

- Focus on the main theme.

- Circle words you don't understand when you are reading,
then look them up in a dictionary.

- Find time to read books.

- Read to learn; read to enjoy.

- If you don't have time for a book, start with crossword
puzzles in the newspaper.

- Read popular magazines and complete the word teasers.

You may not have a lot of time to devote to reading. Begin
by expanding your vocabulary. Using precise vocabulary
words is like fine tuning a musical instrument. It is done
in small increments. You won't learn many new words
overnight, but with continued awareness and practice, you
will expand your vocabulary.

An achiever is a good communicator; has a good grasp of the
language; is able to manipulate the language to convey
precise thoughts. Some speakers use language as an art
form, to play with words, meanings, and spellings.

Empower yourself. Pay attention to what you read. Remember
effective communication skills are the mark of an achiever.
