As we anticipate the arrival of the upcoming holidays, we think of times shared with family and friends. Although stressful, I'm sure we have fond memories of Thanksgiving and Christmas pasts and look forward to this year's celebrations. We know we are to count our blessings, not only at this time, but all year long. We are thankful for our families, church friends, a home, food on the table, a job, and transportation, but what of those who are survivors of a tragedy?

I know many of our own congregation have suffered loss of a loved one, have gone through a divorce, or lost a job. Maybe it is a fight with cancer. What of the survivors who lived through the hurricanes such as Isabel and Katrina?

We too can count our blessings! God has not left us alone! He promised to never leave or forsake us.

In the book of Psalms we see numerous times when David pleaded with God for relief from his enemies. Remember, Saul wanted to kill him. We also read of the jubilant praises David offered to the Lord for His goodness and grace.

This year, as we reflect on our blessings, let's offer the sacrifice of praise even in the bad times and look for hidden gifts for which we can thank the Lord.
