Varner's Authors Den Newsletter-April 2004 It is rare that I send out newsletters for the simple reason that I post most of my news on the Authors Den site. However I should not offer a newsletter unless I produce one! I want to thank all of you for expressing your interests in my writing and for joining the newsletter.
This has been a very busy year so far. My companion volume to Sacred Wells, "Water of Life—Water of Death: The Folklore and Mythology of Sacred Waters" will be published by Publish America later this year and another book entitled "Menhirs, Dolmen and Circles of Stone: The Folklore & Magic of Sacred Stone" will appear in the fall catalogue of the New York academic publisher Algora Publishing. I have also begun another work, which I have called "The Gods of Nature".
I have also been asked to write a monthly column for The New Age Journal. You may wish to visit this site for the many other things that it offers, including author chats, book reviews, news etc. You can find it at http://www.newagejournal.com.
In the next couple of weeks I will be moving from Northern California to the central coast of Oregon where I hope to have more time to write and, hopefully, open a small bookshop. I will concentrate on small press and university titles (no drug store “best sellers” for me!) and hope to have a series of author appearances, workshops etc. As things progress I will send updates. Any of you authors out there that may be visiting Oregon in the future are certainly invited to stop in or have a signing. I will post the phone number and address when available so that we can coordinate things.
Moving is always such a mixed bag. It is not only a lot of work and stress but it also opens new doors and possibilities. There are certainly bad aspects about it—not seeing close friends as often and trying to figure out new routines, etc. But I also believe that one has to take the options as they appear or we simply vegetate and don’t grow.
I will try to put out a newsletter more often in the future—and hopefully have some real news to put into it!
Thank you all,
Gary R. Varner
