Here in Minnesota, this winter is colder than any recent years. If you listen carefully, you can hear the trees making a sound like a gunshot as they freeze through and through.
While standing on the lake fishing, I hear the ice booming as a great crack runs across the entirety of the vast expanse. It is unnerving to some, but the oldtimers hardly look up. Fish are biting, but too cold to take off the mittens.
It's been snowing pretty hard so far this year. Back when I was a kid, the snowbanks were way above my head. Now that's a lot of snow. Of course I was a little shorter back then.
Been invited to go to the PublishAmerica Convention in Maryland. I'd have to repair my snowshoes, carry 3 days provisions on my back just to get to a road. Then, if I run out of food, I'd have to eat my moccassins. Then it's a long treck down to the tar road in Grand Rapids. Then I'd have to wash dishes for a few weeks to get enough money for a bus ticket. It just seems like a lot of trouble. Of course I might be able to borrow my wife's Mercedes. hmmm
Have a good winter and try to catch at least a dozen snowflakes on your tongue.
