Well, the political season is finally over and none too soon I might add. The only thing I could find on the television was politics and Roadrunner cartoons. I did however find that the Roadrunner was far and away more educational and entertaining.
Deer hunting season is in full swing and the young bucks are fighting to see who can be the dumbest buck on the block. I watched a small buck come running out of the woods in a mad search for a mate. He stopped for a moment trying to decide if he should wait for traffic or just run straight ahead across the busy highway. His raging hormones won the battle and now he's roadkill stew. I am really glad that at this ripe old age I no longer need to make such decisions.
I have a new hobby this year. Bird feeding/watching. It would seem that there is no limit to the colors, sizes and shapes. Trying to identify some is rather difficult, but yesterday one came to a suet feeder hanging 2 feet from my head, and gave me a good long look. At first glimpse, I thought it was an eagle with a sore spot on its head. Then I figured it was a pteradactyl resurrected from days gone by. Then my wife told me that it was just a pileated woodpecker. That thing was huge.
I am still waiting for the page proofs to show up from the publisher. "River Chase" promises to be a good read and I am anxious to see what the cover will look like.
Well, time to go and feed the critters. I have a heated heavy rubber feeding tray filled with clean water. My yard is quite popular this year with the local wildlife.
