Oh Ya!
It's here friends and neighbors. The time of year when the snow disappears and the mosquitoes await their first victims. Oh what a cheerful thought.
The visitors to the feeders this winter were a hungry lot, consuming many sacks of sunflower seeds. In case you haven't noticed, the quality of the feed this year was no better than in previous years. In the sunflower seed business, there are machines that grade the seed. The nice fat ones are destined to be turned into oil and cattle feed. The floor sweepings are bagged up and sold to unsuspecting bird enthusiasts. So next year, my neighborhood friends will be getting even fatter than ever. I'm going to buy first rate seed for the birds. It may require an airlift from Fargo, but well worth it.
This year too, I added to their diets, a selection of millet to keep them healthy. Unfortunately, they don't eat that either. Then there was the ear corn that cost a fortune. One evening as I watched it snowing, I saw the squirrels coming in pairs looking for their favorite treats. They would lift the giant ears to their shoulders and trudge to their winter dens with their prize. And all this time I thought the birds were eating them.
The new venture "Peace River Books" is off to a rousing start with the people at the Virginia, Minnesota Home and Travel Show purchasing the first of the new books. What a nice bunch of folks. I even had the opportunity to meet a few old friends for the first time.
Well, time to do something significant. I'm going to go outside and play in the new mud puddles. I may be old but I still love acting like a kid.
