Nothing I can say here will be as interesting as my books. I have lived virtually everything described in them, except for the spirit rituals in Brazil. Those are kind of hairy, and while my husband and I lived there we never once considered attending one session. They are usually set in dangerous locations and perilous to blatant newcomers. I researched those rituals in Portuguese. Although I know a lot of spells to cast, I haven't dared use any of them to persuade an editor to buy.
Newsletter Dated: 4/16/2001 5:23:40 PMSubject: Cultural events in Oakland, CA I will be presenting my novels The Snake Woman of Ipanema and The Year of the Rat on July 6, 2001, between 5:30-7:00 p.m. in Swans Marketplace, in downtown Oakland, CA. The cultural events will run through the summer of 2001 up until October. Interspersed with authors like me will be famous authors of the San Francisco Bay Area. I have been allotted five minutes to make my presentations, but that will mean only that I will focus on the two novels rather than tell 55 minutes more of anecdotes of life in Brazil, as well as Shanghai, China.
This will be fun, because there will be so many cultural events to attend.
