Nothing I can say here will be as interesting as my books. I have lived virtually everything described in them, except for the spirit rituals in Brazil. Those are kind of hairy, and while my husband and I lived there we never once considered attending one session. They are usually set in dangerous locations and perilous to blatant newcomers. I researched those rituals in Portuguese. Although I know a lot of spells to cast, I haven't dared use any of them to persuade an editor to buy.

It's been a tough haul; all writers know how hard this profession is. Last month I thought the sale of Journey was a done deal, today I know it isn't. There is always a glitch in the negotiation process. But I have so many fans who love Journey and my other titles, The Year of the Rat, The Snake Woman of Ipanema, that I continue to take heart from their desire that I succeed.
I thank all for their messages, and remind anyone who wishes to write me to make the subject clear, using the book title so it will not be taken for spam. Spam is a problem with me as with all other e-mail users.
By the way, I have more than 43 publication credits in short stories, essays, poetry, humor/satire, and children's fiction and features. Lots of first-place awards, but not a lot of money! I still consider it a miracle (and hard work) that I have achieved this much since being exiled from Shanghai, China in 1952. God Bless America.
