Fellow Creator,

Epictitus, the ancient Greek philosopher, once remarked: "What concerns me, is not the way things are, but rather the way people THINK they are."

It can be said that we are "name-making-machines", we categorize, name, and add descriptions to all that we encounter.

We instantly box in and pigeon-hole all manner of experience and phenomenon in order to 'make sense' of the world around us and within us.

This, of course, causes less confusion, but it also dis-allows direct experience, too. Once we 'name' something it is settled within us. We can now move on to the next phenomenon and begin naming and categorizing it. Once these definitions are accomplished we cease to ever re-visit the mold we have created and usually let that part of our experience to forever dwell in a tight box of our own making.

It might be much more valuable to start 'breathing' phenomenon, rather than immidiately labelling it.

For instance, I see a heavy snowfall one January day. I have previously labelled it as 'unwanted', 'difficult to navigate' and 'a pain'. In doing so I no longer experience the simple, yet majestic creation of snow
and its ability to transform the landscape.

Then I remember what Paul Sweeney said of snow:
"The joy that is felt at the sight of new-fallen snow is inversely proportional to the age of the beholder."

This is a recurring theme in our work with The Secret Creator Within. In our youth we labelled less. We were slower to 'name' and were open to experience. In other words, our 'essence' is more available and our 'personality' with all of its ego-driven desires and leaded expectations, is less prominent.

Simply put: as children we loved the snow.

Our goal must be to return to this more essential way of living. One way to accomplish this is to STOP our naming, when we see ourselves doing it, and simply BREATHE the experience. Concentrate on our breath and allow ourselves to see, hear, taste, smell and touch the phenomenon without critical assignment.

More thoughts on 'de-naming' our life experiences so that more creativity and joy can come:

Our work is not easy. The attention needed to stop naming everything and instantly categorize is a habit. A strong habit. We can only hope to change it in steps.

Our work is daily. If we were to take one 'assumption' about something,--- anything,--- in our lives each day and simply 'breathe' it for a few moments, we would start to extract new or forgotten meaning from it.

Our work is against mechanicalness. In our current state of sleep we have created a world that is comfortable and mechanical. In order for us to grow and become MORE human we must get UNcomfortable and more present.

Our work is best conducted through our essence. If we can rechannel our thinking into the 'child' within us our scope of understanding will grow. Conversely, if we approach all our experience through the personality, the false ego, our direct, conscious confrontations will wither and eventually die.

The Secret Creator Within awaits our essence to re-establish itself in our adulthood. In fact, the Creator Within can only communicate when we have JOINED our essence to our more developed personalities.

Surely, our education as children was to HELP us name everything in our world. This was needed then. A mastery of our environment assured survival.

Our teachers, parents and ancestors all contributed fully to this form of education. It was a benevolent inheritance designed to protect us and guide us to maturity. Yet, we weren't invited, or encouraged, to conduct some post-graduate work on ourselves.

The vast majority of humanity ceased their evolution with this first education. Everything thereafter has been a mere continuation of this first kind of learning and experiencing. We can name and define the world until we die.

The formula: Essence+Personality= Adulthood is an incomplete diagram. It should and still can be more comprehensive: Essence+Personality+ Return To Essence= Consious Adulthood must be our destination as human beings, in order to aquire a completed education.

The Secret Creator Within said to me:

"Your struggle is to constantly quiet the largely voracious 'outer personality' and to listen more closely to your 'inner essence'. This will begin to re-name all manner of things and re-capture experiences now lost to you, and miracle! RE-NEW them. I can see the small hand of your child-like soul reaching out to me.
