The following letter is from Authors' Coalition Director Joyce Faulkner. Before you read it, know that there will be no changes, really, to this Sharing with Writers newsletter and know that for those of you who are paid members, meaning that you've paid for a silver membership or above in the last year, all you need do is contact me at hojonews@aol.com and I'll be sure you get more than you membership fee in promotion somewhere else. Promise. Here is Joyce's letter:
Dear Authors' Coalition Members:
Carolyn Howard - Johnson and I have worked together to provide opportunities for members of Authors' Coalition for several years now. It's been great fun, but it's also been exhausting for two ladies who spent most of our time writing, speaking, designing Web sites, ghostwriting, blogging, promoting, researching, doing book shows and other appearances, selling and designing and mailing out catalogs and other assorted tasks. Most of the time, we barely covered costs so this was something that we did from the heart.
However, we are getting to that time of life where we'd like to focus more on our own books and our own pet projects. Therefore, when we received a letter notifying us that there's another group with "Authors' Coalition" in its name and that our use of the term confused their audience, we decided to quit rather than go through all the changes such a challenge would require. So, as of December 15, 2008, 'Authors' Coalition' will be no more.
That doesn't mean that we won't still be working with you. Carolyn will continue her Sharing with Writers blog and the Sharing with Writers newsletter as well as providing other information. We are looking for ways to provide our existing members and sponsors with other alternatives. We'll be making an announcement in the near future about opportunities with a new organization that will be appropriate for some of you.
We are hoping to provide you with similar services in cooperation with this organization - - such as access to the LA Times/UCLA Book Festival and other similar events around the country, a catalog and for certain genres, book reviews.
It's been great working with you all. Stay tuned.
