Newsletter Dated: 3/12/2001 6:29:15 PMSubject: A Voice Crying in the Wilderness, Newsletter #1, March 12.2001 We are not alone. We study; we experience life; we learn from our spiritual guides and teachers. We get really high on life. Then one day we seem to top out, even when we know a great deal and speak the language. Somehow, the world remains an awful place. What went wrong? Is it me? What magic gives rise to the brilliance of consciousness enjoyed only by the world's saints and spiritual masters?
Our occidental world is a technological supernova. Yet, the world remains socially and spiritually dysfunctional. Collectively our society must learn that it is through intimacy and self-disclosure that we come to the true meaning of human existence. It is not the intellect that requires nurturing; it is the heart, the soul.
There are so many wonderful books and movies that aid us in understanding ourselves and our society. So much so that I often wonder why we as a society don’t get it? Yet, as I ask this question, I am reminded of "Awakenings," a 1990 movie, a true story, where a Bronx Hospital chronic care ward finds that comatose patients still have life in them. The patient (played by Robert DeNero) awakens from a thirty-five year coma, deals with life only to eventually return to his coma. It’s a heart wrenching story. And, it’s a very good metaphor how we all live life. Spiritually we’re all asleep. Yes, we have our awakenings, but, then we return to our slumber. Why don’t we stay awake? Is being awake so painful?
The question begs to be asked: Are all the wonderful and insightful authors, poets and musicians that we enjoy simply voices crying in the wilderness? If so, this newsletter is dedicated to those "voices crying in the wilderness." Because, it is only when we help each other that we all become winners!

Namasté, John…
Namasté is a Sanskrit word meaning:
I honor the place in you in which the entire universe dwells. I honor the place in you which is of love, of truth, of light, and of peace. When you are in that place in you, and I am in that place in me, we are one.
