The other day, my daughter got to see her crazy mother in action. I like saving animals and thanks to volunteering for Orenda Wildlife Clinic many years ago, have learned a thing. The other day, I really had fun watching a middle-aged woman on the side of the busy road wondering what to do about a large snapping turtle trying to cross the road. Fortunately, I had two glasses of wine in me because I would do anything, including having a hand taken off, to save this wonderous animal. I told husband (Jay) to pull over and that "I can handle this" (haha). So, I assured the woman I knew what to do even though all I knew was that you're supposed to drag small turtles by the tail to wherever they're heading, as they don't eat till they reach their destination. This one was headed to the lake way across the street. You are not supposed to pick a large snapping turtle up by its shell because it can scratch the you-know-what out of you with its claws. So, of course, me being a foolish animal worshipper, I did (it felt inhumane dragging a large creature all the way across the street by its tail). So, I quietly lifted him (or her?) by his/her shell and put him/her down once across the street. His/her mouth was open the entire time, something my husband shouted during this process. Then Jay called that maybe I should bring him just a tad closer to the water but he/she snapped its head around and snapped its mouth and that was all the indication I needed to know that the turtle had made it and needed no more help. Arriving (I promise!) to Point Number One. My daughter wants to save animals now -- wow!!
