Hello Everyone! Sorry I've been AOL for awhile. Summer is such a busy time, what with travelling and spending more time on the go. Add to that computer woes and some minor health setbacks and you've got a newsletter writer who's missing in action! All seems well now, however, and I will do my best to keep things more timely for you. Hope you enjoy today's story!

DIVINE INTERVENTION

The bar was smoky, busy and loud. People bustled through the half-light, filling the four walls to the breaking point. The regulars filled their normal seats and ordered their normal drinks. For me, it was just another night, but I was to find that I was very wrong indeed!

A friend arrived - one that I held a certain odd affection for. She was one of varied beliefs, including dragons, magic mirrors and dead boyfriends holding the spectral half of her fractured dime. As the evening ground on, one of the bouncers who had been courting me also showed up, as did a pesky regular who hounded my every move. I was becoming irritable beyond belief. I growled with every order shouted to the bartender and had to force niceties from my mouth to the customers in and to keep the tips flowing. The last thing I needed on a night like this was another man's attentions or any more distractions.

Finally, the ebb of human flesh began to fall and bodies began to trickle out the doors. One entire row of tables in my section was empty and I hurried to clean them. In my haste, glasses were stacked on my tray and tables were wiped. Yet, as thorough as I was, I had the nagging sensation that I was "missing something." I hurried back to the waitress station, slogged my cleaning rag in the bucket and rushed back to the tables. In the middle of the empty row, I tripped and nearly fell.

I stood upright and angry, glaring around to find whomever was foolhardy enough to trip me. There was no one there. My section was neary empty. I scrutinized every inch of carpet, certain now that a glass or bottle must have caused me to stumble. The carpet was bare of debris.

"Odd," I thought, then thrust back my shoulders to hurry on with my job.

I was stopped dead in my tracks!

There was no wall, no body - nothing to hinder my forward motion, but I was physically unable to move forward. I felt like a mime pushing against an invisible barrier. The sensation that I had been forcing away, that of missing something, came round to slap me in the face. My head swiveled. It was then that I saw the reason for my otherworldly cessation of movement.

In the pale, yellow glow of a downturned light stood a man. The moment my eyes fell upon him, a thrill akin to ecstacy surged through my body. It tingled my scalp and befuddled my mind. All that I could see was him - his face, his body. I instantly memorized each stitch of clothing.

That man was the reason for the nagging feeling. That man was the reason behind me being spiritually held on the spot. Had I hurried through with the rest of my evening duties, I would never have noticed him. Yet, I looked now, my eyes devouring his form, his face.

Then, to my great blessing I found my strange friend standing next to his table hugging him. Fate had given me a reason to go to his table and I siezed the opportunity. When I stepped up, she was writing her phone number down on a piece of paper.

"Call me," she said.

I took the paper from her, winked at him and then wrote my name and number on the reverse side.

"Call me first," I said.

He did call the very next day. We have been together from that day to this, married now with two children and a blessed relationship. But had it not been for the Divine Intervention shaking me from my present state of mind, I would never have met the man I was destined to marry.

And, he still has that little piece of paper with my number on it!
