Summer is in full bloom in England and from what I know, it is a typical one. Lots of rain and long days. Rain here is always light. Even a downpour isn’t that severe. Since I’ve been here I’ve heard one thunder boom and nothing more… there just isn’t any violent weather here, very peaceful.

I’m still trying to find my way into a more secure job than the one I have. The one I have is OK and I do enjoy the work but I have no guarantee of any hours. I share more about this frustration on www.daveharm.com/ramblings

I do realize that I can do something about this frustration and have started this past week to take some control over future job opportunities. Most jobs here require a background check. Anything that possibly deals with money, children, elderly, service, and things like this require this check up before employment can happen. Being an American, I don’t have a European background to do a check and no company is going to run a background check on me that could take a month to get a response. So, last week I went to the Manchester police department and got my fingerprints taken and sent them off to the FBI, to do a nationwide background check on me.

They will send me a printout of what they found, which will be nothing, and I’ll have something to show future employers. Along with the FBI check-up, I have also been advised to do a local one through my last state of residence, which I will also work on with the sheriff’s department from the county I lived in while in Nebraska.

Another thing that living in Europe that isn’t necessary in America is work type licences. I have operated a fork-lift for over 20 years, yet I can’t operate one here because I don’t have a licence. I was a security guard at a University in America, yet I can’t do that because of not having a licence. So, in another step of regaining some control over future jobs, I will be taking a security course and then apply for a licence. With that licence and the background check I should be able to apply for any job in the general sector.

The dream store is still closed, hopefully very soon it will be re-opened for business in England and Europe, as well as sending merchandise across the pond.

As I do with every update, I also include a classic. As I was looking at my writings I found an oldie that was written in 2009. I’ve shown it a couple of other times and while others may not think it is “great”, it is a poem that really is special for me.

Entitled “Dreams of a Haunted House,” it was written from nightmares I was having at that time. This nightmare appeared to me 3-4 times a week and was always the same.

I wrote the poem trying to figure out its meaning. It wasn’t until a year later that the meaning of this nightmare came to light. Why a year later? In 2010, I changed my lifestyle. I got a new home residence, I got out of debt, and made plans for an entirely different future that the nightmare couldn’t foresee.

When this new life started, the nightmare ended and has never returned. As I read it today, I still remember it like it was yesterday. Every night I prayed to die in my sleep and when the sun rose another day of hell started for me.

Independence Day has come and gone, and with it, my website celebrated its 12th year on the web. I hope you stop by and have a look around and read my thoughts on American Independence and the recently found Independence of England…

While football is played year round in Europe, next month American football will start up and though I’m far away I’ll still be following it all and some nights staying up till 1 AM, just to watch the kick-off…
