Bohemian: “A person with artistic or literary interests who disregards conventional standards of behavior.”

Admittedly, I can’t say that I have truly been living the Bohemian Life, unless hanging at the coffee shop typing on a laptop while sipping espresso is considered a blatant disregard for conventional standards of behavior.

But, alas, it is time I join the world of employment and I find myself looking forward to this new opportunity with great anticipation! As many of you may know, I have accepted a position at the University of Florida, thus ending my six months of Bohemian Existence and Misadventure!

But fear not! I fully intend to continue my writing endeavors, including this ever-fascinating and informative – not to mention highly entertaining – Newsletter!

OK, so maybe I have a terminal case of wishful thinking, or of self-fulfilling prophecy – or perhaps I’m just delusional – at any rate, the news (no matter how trivial) must be delivered!

This past week has been eventful! For those of you fortunate enough to read The Observer, you may have noticed my interview reprinted therein, along with a new photograph of yours truly. In addition to this press, my article on Florida Railroad history appeared in the August edition of Senior Times.

I have to admit that it is highly satisfying to see my first (paid) article in print. If all goes as planned there will be more to follow including my very own column in the High Springs Alachua Magazine. THAT will be exceedingly cool!

I still need a title for my column so if you have any ideas feel free to email me! And don’t say ‘Idiot Savant’ or ‘Geek Speak’ because I’m not smart enough for either of those titles. And don’t combine them and suggest ‘Idiot Speak’, either (although that does have a nice ring to it).

For those of you who would rather not cough up the cash to purchase my book, but are none-the-less still interested in reading it, a copy of “Endless” is on order and will soon be available in the Alachua County Library.

WAIT! I must amend that last sentence: I just did a quick Internet search to discover that there are TWO copies already in the Library system – one at the Library Headquarters and one at Millhopper – and both are currently checked out! Whoa!

Excellente!

(You didn’t know I could speak Spanish, did you?).

Is it possible that people I don’t even know checked out my book? COOL!

People are asking me about book signings. Yes, there is one in the works, scheduled in September at Goering’s Book Store in Gainesville. It should be on the 25th. Guess I better find out for sure, eh? You may rest assured; I will be reminding all of you of this important (at least to me) event! It will be on a Sunday. Don’t forget to tell all of your friends because I’m sure you don’t want me to sit there in the corner drinking the wine all by myself! For those of you out-of-towners, feel free to fly in to Gainesville because you won’t want to miss this gala event! But I understand if you can’t make it. In lieu of attendance you can always just go down to your local library and request that they acquire the book like I did… uh, I mean… like someone else did, here in Alachua County!

Well, I hear the screech of our little Banshee, our soon-to-be-four-year-old, a sound I’ve heard a lot these last few days as we wrap up summer vacation and prepare to return to our designated stations in life.
