WEIGHTY MATTERS

Weighty Matters ... That Shouldn’t Be Carried Alone

1. Grief (When its a close friend or family member) - In an effort to be strong and ministerial, we sometimes try to deal with our grief alone. This robs others of opportunities to minister to us when we need it most. Allow them this privilege while you grieve normally.

2. Financial Burden (When its church or personal finances) - Financial difficulties may or may not be your fault. Nor should you assume you must address it alone. Concerning church finances, all of your church family shares in the dilemma. All must partake in the concern and solution. Personal financial crises is an equal burden that should be shared by the congregation. You cannot minister fully if your mind is bothered by financial worries.

3. Conflict (When its in your church) - Unless you are a major reason conflict exist, allow the church leadership to take responsibility for the outcome. Even if you have caused the problem, don’t address the concerns by yourself. More than ever you need church understanding, forgiveness, and loving discipline. Only a fool will refuse to reach out when things are not going his/her way.

4. Abuse (When its physical or sexual) - Laws in most states require notification. Most of us are ill-equipped to help people through such trauma. We can support their efforts at getting help but we dare not go alone. In today’s litigious society, we would do well to protect ourselves -- letting a trained professional address the abuse.
