Are you using your special event calendar to attract society at large? We would do well do consider the implications of event ministry and maximize its potential for outreach. Church growth happens when all avenues of reaching people are utilized completely. Follow-up must happen if we want repeat attenders from special events.

OTHER WAYS TO HELP

“How Can I Help?”

That’s a question we often hear these days when people see "Built By The Owner’s Design". Actually, there are many ways you can be of assistance. Here are a few ideas:

1. Order a copy. (We wish we could give each of you a copy free but financially that is an impossibility.)

2. Tell others that, while you would be delighted if they bought the book, you’re just writing to let them know it exists.

3. Tell your colleagues, your friends, and your church members about this new resource. Talk it up over coffee, during phone conversations, at church meetings, etc.

4. Take a copy with you when you go to meetings. Show it to people and give them this toll free number (1-800-537-1030).

5. Write a letter to the editor or mini-review for church leadership newsletters or magazines to which you subscribe.

6. Go to Amazon.com and write a 5-star review ... if you think that’s deserved, of course.

7. Give the book as a gift to an aspiring pastor, church staff member, or newcomer to church growth.

8. Ask for Built By The Owner’s Design whenever you go into a bookstore. If they don’t have it, suggest they order it. If they do, put it face-out on the shelf (smile). Thanks!

SENIOR MINISTRY

"Don't Leave Home Without Them"

For any senior adult gathering, be sure you bring one or more of this cache of items. No meeting with seniors is safe without them:

1. A good story - a dull meeting is brought to life with a good story. The more its setting is from the 1920’s to the 1940’s the better.

2. A priceless joke - laughter chases away any chance for lifeless senior assemblage.

3. A classic song - tunes of yesteryear at the appropriate moment can highlight any senior gathering.

4. An inviting door prize - everyone enjoys receiving a prize. Make it an appealing award and watch seniors become giddy.

5. An unexpected guest - Seniors love surprises. Bring a past friend and experience a joyous reunion. Do it at the end though or risk getting caught in the stampede.

6. A heart-wrenching testimony - Testimonies encourage the downhearted. Secure only those that uplift the hearers. Make sure they are heavily weighed toward what God is doing in the person’s life now compared to their wretched life before Christ.

7. A quality monologue - Seniors appreciate drama. A Biblical character or a historical figure will capture any senior’s attention.

8. A visit by children - Great joy comes when seniors know children have come to see and interact with them.

9. A challenging devotional - Seniors love to be challenged. Tie it to their concerns and you will see them take action.

10. A member written poem - a poem written and presented by the group appointed poet laureate always is appreciated.
