“Church growth is hard work. Nothing is easy about going door-to-door. Who said setting up a religious survey with countless volunteers wouldn’t be difficult? Why do some believe that implementing a pro-active Sunday school organization and creating a climate for outreach should be without hurdles? Church growth is not for the lazy of heart. Indeed, I’m convinced that many of our churches shrink back into complacency because their leaders suffer from laziness -- an
inability to get up, get going, and do what they know will bring about growth. Our people can’t follow those who won’t, can’t, or don’t try to lead. My prayer is that God will light a fire under all of us and move us to get busy building His Kingdom.

Myth - Revivals Are No Longer Effective

Thom Rainer analyzed growing churches and concluded in his book, Effective Evangelistic Churches1, that, “Revival evangelism is alive and well.” Slightly less than half of the 576 growing, evangelistic churches surveyed, continue to hold regularly scheduled revival meetings as an evangelistic tool.”2 We would do well to again embrace the idea of revivals for evangelistic and church growth.
