Last evening, on my radio program "Conversations with C. A. Webb" that airs on WMPR 90.1 FM, I talked to brothers, Carlton and Maurice Turner, about how artists can help our ailing society to get well soon. Today, I was made aware of a cause that should prompt all of us who are serious about being a part of the solution to our problems to act---- and fast.

I was contacted by Ms. Joyce Knight, the founder of Safe Haven Outreach Ministry at 432 Clifton St. off Lynch St. in Jackson, MS, and she told me of her urgent need for help to provide assistance to those whom she cares for. The people who come to her are normally referred by St. Dominics Mental Health, and she does everything she can to make them comfortable since they practically have nothing. Ms Knight, along with her husband, operate this great organization THEMSELVES, with NO assistance from grants or any other programs. When I spoke with her this afternoon, she surprised me by revealing that she was 44 years old and on disability herself, using her check to finance this endeavor, admitting that she was doing so under divine inspiration. (The house, she says, can accommodate up to 40 people, but at this time only has 12.)

Ms. Knight, or "Ms. Joyce" as she told me to call her, asked me if it was possible for me to donate an hour two days a week to provide art lessons to her group. I readily accepted. I told her that I would also donate two framed pieces of artwork for the walls of her ministry's home, and that I was able to donate some sheets and towels from the Best Western Executive Inn for those in her care. When I asked her what all she was in need of, she told me that anything people were led to donate would be appreciated, such as towels, beds, nightstands, chairs, and bed items. Ms. Joyce also told me that she would like to have transportation for those at Safe Haven, to take them to the zoo, museums, etc.

Now, those who know me can attest that I am no saint, but listening to this beautiful soul share her story with me--- a complete stranger---brought tears to my eyes. I knew that I had to do more.

Joyce Knight will be my guest for a special "Conversations with C. A. Webb" next Tuesday on WMPR 90.1 FM. I am going to allow her the opportunity to address the listening audience about her plight and the mission she feels she has been divinely given to fulfill. We are also going to be discussing my organization, C. A. Webb Enterprises, hosting a benefit program in which all proceeds would be directed to Safe Haven Outreach Ministry.
