The other evening while Christine and I were watching the news on TV we heard the announcer say that Sid Caesar had died. Because I had met many international celebrities during my work as a radio and TV star, I knew quite a few so-called Big Names.

Did you ever know Sid Caesar? she asked.

He passed my way, I told her, once or twice.

She said, You should write down their names, so you won’t forget them.

I gave it momentary thought. There were, of course, Sid Caesar—and the Smothers Brothers—they had been brought in while I was doing my radio show, and I just turned them loose; they went on and on till they ran out of steam.

Then there was Hal Holbrook, Judy Garland, John Wayne, Racquel Welsh—most of whom I got know while co-hosting the Pat Somberg show, WELCOME INN—and Cary Grant, Edmund O’Brien, Red Skelton, Roy Rogers, Sally Field, W.C. Fields, Robert Goulet, Ester Williams, Joan Fontaine, Sid Caesar, Floyd Patterson, Rory Calhoun—plus many, many more.
Tell me about Racquel Welsh, Chris said.
Well, let me see . . . I interviewed her at the Town & Country Dinner Theater; she was their first hire after the remodeling; she did not have a stitch of furniture in her dressing room

What was she wearing? Chris wanted to know.

Just a terry-cloth robe, about four sizes too big. It was held together by a similar white belt, but not very securely—it came undone and showed her breasts, all soft and full, and I have to admit, I wondered what they would taste like—and the lower half separated when she crossed her legs, and I found myself staring at a dark patch I could not believe . . .

I DON’T BELIEVE A SINGLE WORD OF THIS! Christine interrupted, at full volume. Tell me instead about Judy Garland! And keep your fantasies to yourself!
